How can crimes like this happen?

Where are the adults?


As many as ten people ranging in age from 15 to 21 as reported so far (http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/10/28/california.rape.investigation/index.html) participated in a gang rape of a 15 year old girl outside the homecoming dance at school. Astounding yes, but as many as ten more watched as it happened!

What I have to wonder is how can this happen? Who lets their 15 year old hang out with 21 year olds? Were these people all students at the dance? Why is a 21 year old at a high school dance? Was he a chaperone?

All these people are old enough to know rape is wrong. Why would they commit such a crime? I hope this isn’t another one of those stories where friends and family come out and say the criminals had bad upbringings and can’t help it. Someone guilty of this should not have another chance. We are not talking about a kid shoplifting a pack of chewing gum because he didn’t know just how wrong it was yet. Do you agree?
