Ongoing articles throughout this month indicate Johnson and Hernandez favor forcing a countywide curriculum, including teachers teach specific items on specific days regardless of the students’ needs, and are getting harsh reactions from parents, students, and teachers. The plan even calls for a team to visit classrooms and ensure compliance.

2009: SunSentinel.com reports recent salary to be $300,000 per year without bonuses. Isn’t that a 50% increase in just a couple years? Who deserves that?

2006: Reported in the SunSentinel, Johnson’s yearly salary - $195,000. Wow, no wonder he wanted this job when starting teachers earned only $33,000.

2001: Johnson became superintendent of Palm Beach County Schools, Florida. It is great that someone is not punished for life for their mistakes but this seems a stretch. How can he run the 14th largest school district in the United States when he had trouble running his high school?

2001 began as Member of the Criminal Justice Committee (CJC): According to the committee’s website, one core value is to seek bold an innovative approaches to produce remarkable results. I wonder what bold criminal justice approach he was thinking about when the slacker’s box was being used in the school where he was principal before being forced to resign in 1998.

1997: Art Johnson forced to resign as principal of Spanish River High School, Boca Raton, Florida after approximately 30 years as an educator. The main issue for his resignation was surround a 3 x 4 foot space known as the slacker’s box that certain students were forced into as some sort of humiliation tactic in one of the classrooms within his school.
